Marijuana

Our Mission

Our goal is to give Shaw residents an understandable path through Missouri's medical marijuana certification and registration process.

Shaw's history stretches much further back than its present residential streets. The area formed part of the Prairie des Noyers, or "Meadows of the Walnut Trees," established by French settlers in 1769. Much of what became Shaw was later associated with landowner Henry Shaw, for whom the neighborhood is named.

By the mid-1800s, Henry Shaw and Mary L. Tyler owned much of the land that became the neighborhood. In 1857, they agreed to open Shaw, Flora, and Tower Grove avenues as part of efforts to shape future development.

Our aim is to make this page similarly rooted in the actual Shaw neighborhood rather than simply presenting generic St. Louis cannabis information.

Who We Are

Our resources are designed for both new and returning Missouri medical cannabis patients.

A first-time applicant may need help understanding certification, application requirements, and fees. Someone already registered may instead need guidance about renewal, cultivation, caregiver requirements, or helping a minor patient.

Shaw's physical character also makes it distinct from many other St. Louis neighborhoods. Although some development occurred earlier, most of the neighborhood was built between 1890 and 1915, with additional development in the northern section continuing until the 1920s. Housing ranges from single-family residences to large multi-unit apartment buildings in several architectural styles.

The Shaw Neighborhood became a Certified Local Historic District in 1985, reflecting the significance of its built environment.

Our Commitment

Clear Information From the Beginning: Patients should understand the difference between medical certification and Missouri's separate patient registration.

Respect for Patient Confidentiality: Medical information should be handled carefully and privately throughout the evaluation process.

Guidance Based Specifically on Missouri Rules: The information provided to patients focuses on Missouri's current medical cannabis requirements.

Assistance That Reflects Individual Circumstances: Different patients have different needs. A new applicant, caregiver, cultivation applicant, renewing patient, or parent assisting a minor may require different information.

Joining Hands with the Community

Shaw sits beside some of the most recognizable green spaces and institutions in South St. Louis.

Tower Grove Park borders the neighborhood along Magnolia Avenue. The City of St. Louis lists the park at 289 acres and notes that it was established in 1868.

The neighborhood is also directly adjacent to the Missouri Botanical Garden and lies immediately north of the South Grand commercial area, giving residents access to a mixture of historic residential streets, major public spaces, and active commercial corridors.

Medical cannabis education should therefore address more than how to obtain a card.

Patients also need to understand Missouri's rules regarding possession, cultivation, purchasing, public consumption, and impaired driving.

Missouri states that public consumption of marijuana is not allowed and that Article XIV does not permit driving or operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of marijuana.

Our Vision

We want people in Shaw considering medical cannabis to have information that is clear, locally relevant, and consistent with Missouri requirements.

From the first medical consultation through state registration and future renewal, patients should understand what they need to complete and where they are in the process.

By combining Missouri medical cannabis information with genuine Shaw history and neighborhood context, the goal is to provide a page that is useful specifically to Shaw residents rather than another generic St. Louis article.
